Widnes Teachers Share Lotto Prize of £1 Million

A syndicate of 30 teaching staff at Simms Cross Primary School in Widnes, Cheshire matched a winning Lotto Millionaire Raffle code to share £1 million in March 2016. Syndicate manager Julie Connaughton checked the slip on the Friday the school broke up for the Easter holidays, but other members of the group didn’t believe her when she told them the good news as it was also April Fools’ Day.

Once she had rung lottery officials to confirm the win, under close supervision of head teacher Lesley Feakes, the usual end of term jollity was ratcheted up, with some syndicate members seen dancing around the school!

Each member of the group received £33,333 and variously planned to purchase new cars and tropical holidays with their cuts. Julie was grateful for the win as she was in the midst of planning a wedding and pledged that her slice of the fortune would be spent on a “fabulous honeymoon”. Colleague Beth Murphy was also saving up for her nuptials before the Lotto win eased the pressure in spectacular style.
